مقدمه: تنباکو گیاهی است که به دلیل داشتن ترکیباتی از قبیل نیکوتین سولفات دارای خواص ضد نماتودی و ضد التهابی است. از این گیاه به عنوان دارو در درمان بیماری‌های عفونی و همچنین برای کشتن لارو حشرات و آفات گیاهی استفاده می‌شود. هدف: هدف از این مطالعه ارزیابی اثر عصاره گیاه تنباکو بر روی اسکولکس‌های کیست هیداتیک بود. روش بررسی: کیست‌های هیداتیک از کبد گوسفندان آلوده در کشتارگاه قزوین جمع‌آوری شد و پروتو اسکولکس‌ها در شرایط استریل از این کیست‌ها جدا شدند. زنده بودن پروتواسکولکس‌ها با روش‌های آزمایشگاهی تائید شد. پروتواسکولکس‌های زنده با غلظت‌های مختلف عصاره اتانولی گیاه تنباکو (3، 5، 10، 25، 50 و 100 میلی‌گرم در میلی‌لیتر) در مدت زمان‌های مختلف (10، 20، 30، 40، 50 و 60 دقیقه) مواجه شدند. از کلرید سدیم 0/9 درصد به عنوان کنترل منفی استفاده شد. میزان زنده بودن پروتواسکولکس‌ها پس از مواجهه با رنگ‌آمیزی ائوزین ارزیابی شد. نتایج: عصاره تنباکو در غلظت 100 میلی‌گرم در میلی‌لیتر در 10 دقیقه باعث کشته شدن 91/19 درصد از پروتواسکولکس‌ها شد در حالی که در باقی زمان‌ها (20 تا ٦0 دقیقه) منجر به کشته شدن 100 % پروتواسکولکس‌ها شد. نتیجه‌گیری: این گیاه دارویی اثرات ضد پروتواسکولکسی خوبی نشان داد و احتمالاً می‌تواند در جراحی کیست هیداتیک کمک‌کننده باشد. البته برای مشخص شدن هر چه بهتر نیاز به انجام تحقیقات بیشتر است.
