خارخاسک (Tribulus terrestris)، گیاهی یکساله بوده که در مناطق گرم و مرطوب، در نواحی مدیترانه و نواحی گرم اروپا، آسیا، آفریقا و استرالیا پراکنده است. این گیاه دارای فواید مختلفی بوده و در طب سنتی برای درمان انواع بیماری‌ها از جمله دفع سنگ کلیه، کاهش فشار خون، خواص ضد دیابتی، درمان بیماری‌های دستگاه قلبی-عروقی، اختلالات معدی-روده‌ای، تقویت عملکرد جنسی در مردان و درمان بیماری‌های کبدی توصیه می‌شود. هدف این مطالعه بررسی خواص درمانی و فارماکولوژیک خارخاسک در منابع طب سنتی و مقالات علمی در طب مدرن است. این مطالعه یک مرور سیستماتیک است که بر اساس چک لیستPRISMA  انجام گرفت. بر اساس کلید واژه‌ها، 440 عنوان انتخاب و پس از حذف مقالات تکراری، 129 مقاله از پایگاه‌های مختلف از جمله PubMed،SID،ScienceDirect ، Scopus ، Magiran و موتور جستجوی Google Scholar بدون محدودیت زمانی استخراج شد. خارخاسک دارای خواص متعددی از جمله خاصیت ضد میکروبی و ضد باکتریایی، پاکسازی رادیکال‌های آزاد و مهار پراکسیداسیون چربی است و از طریق مکانیسم‌های مختلف سلولی و مولکولی موجب خواص مختلف فارماکولوژیک و درمانی می‌شود. از جمله مهم‌ترین خواص درمانی این گیاه خواص ضد التهابی و ضد سرطانی است. همچنین مطالعات متعدد بالینی نشان دادند که مصرف توأم عصاره خارخاسک با داروهای شیمی درمانی موجب کاهش عوارض جانبی داروها می‌شود. با توجه فقدان سمیت و خواص متنوع خارخاسک، مصرف ترکیبات این گیاه به عنوان مکمل دارویی در رژیم های درمانی جهت بیماری‌های مختلف مورد توجه قرار گرفته است.
