مقدمه: چندین مطالعه بالینی به منظور بررسی اثرات درمانی احتمالی عصاره دانه گیاه خار مریم
(
Silybum marianum) به نام silymarin در دیابت نوع 2 (T2DM) و بیماری کبد چرب غیر الکلی (NAFLD) انجام شده است. هدف: ما به منظور ارزیابی اثربخشی مکمل سیلیمارین در درمان T2DM وNAFLD ، این موضوع را مرور کردیم. روش بررسی: بانک‌های اطلاعاتی الکترونیکیPubMed، Science Direct، Scopus، Google و Google Scholar برای مقالات کارآزمایی بالینی انسانی انگلیسی و غیر انگلیسی که در مورد اثرات سیلیمارین بر T2DM و NAFLD از ژانویه 2010 تا آوریل 2018 منتشر شده است، مورد بررسی قرار گرفت. نتایج: شانزده مقاله در مورد اثرات سیلیمارین بر T2DM و NAFLD در مطالعات بالینی در این بررسی گنجانده شده است. اثر ضد دیابتی سیلیمارین در چهار کارآزمایی بالینی به تنهایی و در یک کارآزمایی در ترکیب با رزین کندر و گزنه گزارش شده است. اثر سیلیمارین یا ماده مؤثره آن سیلیبین در درمان NAFLD در یازده کارآزمایی بالینی به تنهایی یا در ترکیب با فسفاتیدیل کولین، سیمواستاتین و ویتامین E گزارش شده است. نتیجه‌گیری: به نظر می‌رسد که سیلیمارین به عنوان یک مکمل همراه با درمان استاندارد در درمان T2DM و NAFLD مؤثر است.
