عروسک پشت پرده (L. Physalis alkekengi) گیاه دارویی مهم از خانواده Solanaceae است که در طب سنتی ایران و در اکثر نقاط جهان کاربرد درمانی دارد و برای این گیاه خواص متعددی نظیر تببر، ضد التهاب، ضد درد، ضد باکتری و ضد ویروس گزارش شده است. عروسک پشت پرده در طب چینی کاربرد فراوانی دارد و از میوه آن، برای درمان آبسه، سرفه و رفع تب و گلودرد استفاده میشود. همچنین جوشانده و دم کرده گل آن برای درمان دیابت مناسب است و از ریشه این گیاه نیز برای درمان مشکلات ادراری و التهابات پوستی و دفع اسیداوریک، درمان نقرس، آرتروز، بواسیر، هپاتیت، برونشیت و تقویت کبد استفاده میشود. سابقه مطالعات فیتوشیمیایی عروسک پشتپرده به سال 1965 برمی‌گردد. تقریباً تاکنون 124 ترکیب شامل استروئیدها، فلانوئیدها، فنیلپروپانوئیدها و آلکالوئیدها از قسمت‌های مختلف این گیاه استخراج شده است که استروئیدها و فلانوئیدها از اهمیت بیشتری برخوردار هستند. حدود 58 ترکیب استروئیدی با بیشترین مقدار ترکیب فیزالین در اندام‌های مختلف این گیاه گزارش شده است. همچنین 19 ترکیب فلاونوئیدی در فرم‌های فلاون و فلاونول از کاسبرگهای عروسک پشت‌ پرده استخراج شده است. به طور کلی، نتایج این مطالعه نشان می‌دهد که عروسک پشتپرده به دلیل خواص فیتوشیمیایی مؤثر در تغذیه و درمان برخی از بیماری‎های متابولیکی می‌تواند به عنوان یک گیاه دارویی مؤثر در صنایع دارویی و بهداشتی استفاده شود.
